CTOnews.com, December 20 (Xinhua) according to Mexico's Reform Daily, Tesla will formally announce plans to build a super factory in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon as soon as Friday, with an initial investment of US $8 billion to US $1 billion and a final investment of US $10 billion. The plant will initially produce auto parts for Tesla's models, followed by electric cars, according to people familiar with the matter.

The plant will be located in Santa Catarina in Monterrey, capital of Nuevo Leon, according to people familiar with the matter. One of the people familiar with the matter said that the final details were still being worked out and Tesla was discussing the matter with officials from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nuevo Leon.

In October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) visited Nuevo Leon and met with officials there. Moreover, Tesla's previous relationship with the state government has won him an exclusive customs passage, allowing some parts to cross the border into Texas.

The plant will be Tesla's first factory south of the US border and part of Tesla's efforts to expand global manufacturing. In addition to US factories, Tesla has previously set up large car assembly plants in China and Germany.

In fact, Tesla has been considering building a third factory in North America after California and Texas. In August this year, Mr Musk also told shareholders that a new plant decision might be made by the end of the year.
