Apple's self-service program supports the expansion of models to add desktop Mac and Studio Display with M1

CTOnews.com, December 21 (Xinhua)-- Apple today expanded its self-service program to support iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Studio Display with M1 series chips, all of which now have parts, tools and maintenance manuals that users can do with their own hands.

CTOnews.com has learned that parts for these desktop Mac models and Studio Display are currently available only in the US, although the program has been extended to Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK earlier this month. In addition, the maintenance manual can be found on Apple's website.

Mac desktops and Studio Display kits can be rented from Apple's self-service store for $49 each and must be returned in seven days.

Apple's self-service program was first launched in the United States in April to provide users with authentic Apple parts, tools and manuals to complete self-service maintenance of iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and third-generation iPhone SE models. New support for the plan in August includes MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M1 series chips.

Apple said the program was for individuals "experienced in repairing the complexities of electronic devices". For the "vast majority" of users, Apple says it is a better choice to go to a "professional repairman" such as an Apple store.
