The RADV driver for Mesa 23.0 defaults to AMD RDNA2 graphics card enabling grid shader
CTOnews.com, December 21, Mesa 23.0 today Git the "EXT_mesh_shader" extension, which supports AMD Radeon RX 6000 "RDNA2" graphics cards by default on newer versions of Linux Kernel.
CTOnews.com learned that Mesa's Radeon Vulkan "RADV" driver optimizes several versions of the grid shader (mesh shader) and is now enabled by default for RDNA 2 graphics cards. The grid shader for the Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA3" series graphics cards will have to wait for some time.
Mesa 23.0 support for RDNA2 graphics cards in this update is based on AMDGPU, so only Linux Kernel 6.1 and above will be enabled by default.
The stable version of Mesa 23.0 should be released around early March, with support for Vulkan grid shaders for RDNA2, improved support for RDNA3 graphics, and enhanced open source graphics drivers from Radeon hardware and other vendors.
