CTOnews.com January 9, 16 years ago today, Apple founder Steve Jobs launched the iPhone to the world for the first time on the stage of the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, California.

Standing on the stage of the Macworld Expo, Jobs said that it would go down in history and introduced a device that would change everything. "Today, Apple will reinvent the mobile phone," Jobs said. " He then unveiled the iPhone, which at the time had a futuristic design, no physical keyboard, a multi-touch display and an iPhoneOS mobile operating system.

Jobs said at the time that the iPhone was an iPod with a touch screen, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a groundbreaking Internet communications device. The original iPhone had a 3.5-inch LCD display, a 2-megapixel camera and a body made of aluminum and plastic.

Since the advent of the original iPhone, Apple has been upgrading it every year. IPhone's first major design change was iPhone 4 in 2010, three years after the launch of the original iPhone, iPhone 4 marked a turning point in iPhone history, with a new design of right-angled frames, a new retinal display, an A4 processor, a 5-megapixel camera, and a LED flash.

Two years later, the iPhone 5 marked another redesign of iPhone, with a larger retina display, an A6 chip, an ultra-thin design that made it "the thinnest smartphone in the world" at the time, and a new 8 megapixel iSight camera.

In the years that followed, Apple introduced some innovations, such as the Touch ID, Face ID, advanced cameras, industry-leading smartphone performance and battery life.
