The number of nuclear power units under construction in China ranks first in the world, and nuclear power will account for 10% of the total electricity generation in 2035.
CTOnews.com, January 11, according to CCTV news, the number of nuclear power units under construction in China ranks first in the world. Up to now, there are 54 commercial nuclear power units and 23 nuclear power units under construction in China, and the scale under construction continues to lead the world.
Data show that from January to November 2022, China generated 7.6 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity, an increase of 2.1 percent over the same period last year. Of this total, nuclear power generation reached 3780.4 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 11.1 percent over the same period last year. It accounts for about 5% of the power structure, up from about 2% a decade ago.
During the 14th five-year Plan period, it is expected that the installed scale of nuclear power in China will further accelerate the growth, and the power generation will increase significantly; by 2035, the proportion of nuclear power generation in China's power structure will reach about 10%.
CTOnews.com learned that the total generating capacity of CNNC's nuclear power units in 2022 was 185.239 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 7 per cent over the same period last year. CNNC aims to generate 228.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2023, of which 183.5 billion kilowatt-hours are planned for nuclear power. By the end of 2022, CNNC had 25 nuclear power units in operation, 8 units under construction and 3 units to be built.
In 2022, the total generating capacity of 26 nuclear power units operated and managed by China General Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. is about 211.314 billion kilowatt-hours, and the total online electricity is about 198.375 billion kilowatt-hours. At present, China Guangzhou Nuclear Power Corporation is operating 26 nuclear power units with an installed capacity of 2938 million kilowatts, and seven nuclear power units under construction with an installed capacity of 8.36 million kilowatts.
