Although TSMC's 3nm process has been mass-produced and is considered to have a higher rate of quality products, it has been reported that this year's main customers may only be Apple, Qualcomm and MediaTek, the two major smartphone application processor manufacturers, have not yet made a clear decision.

According to sources, although Qualcomm and MediaTek both hope to follow Apple's pace and adopt the 3nm process on their flagship smartphone processors, they have not yet made a clear decision to join the 3nm camp this year.

The source also mentioned that Qualcomm and MediaTek have not yet decided whether to adopt the 3nm process this year, as well as the uncertain future of the Android smartphone market and the high cost of the 3nm process. In terms of cost, sources say each wafer has exceeded $20000 (currently about 134000 yuan).

In the report, the relevant media also mentioned that Qualcomm and MediaTek are in a dilemma on whether to adopt the 3nm process this year.

Apple, as a major customer of TSMC's advanced process, is widely expected to adopt the 3nm process this year, manufacturing chips including the A17 bionic chips that will be carried in the high-end iPhone 15 series, and mass production will begin before the relevant products are released.

Qualcomm and MediaTek also face competitive pressure when Apple uses the 3nm process. Foreign media also mentioned that if Samsung Electronics wants to compete with Apple in the flagship smartphone market, Qualcomm may have no choice but to start using the 3nm process this year.
