The global PC market plummeted 27.8% in the fourth quarter. Apple withstood the pressure and shipped 7 million units, only 3% lower than the same period last year.

CTOnews.com, January 20, according to the latest data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022 were 65.2 million units, down 27.8% from the same period last year. Apple withstood the severe test of the market slump, with shipments of 7 million units, down only 3 per cent from a year earlier.

It is pointed out in the report that Apple's shipments are relatively stable for the whole of 2022 and continue to erode the market share of x86 suppliers. Apple's market share reached double digits in the second half of 2022 and 9.4% for the whole of 2022.

CTOnews.com learned that the Mac device market, which uses Apple's own Apple Silicon chip, is doing well. Apple updated its 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with M2 chips in 2022, and shipped 7 million Mac devices in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared with 7.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2021. Although such a result does not look outstanding at first glance, it is very eye-catching compared to the 20% decline of 30% in HP and Lenovo.
