Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, February 3 (Xinhua)-- after years of slow launch, SpaceX is ready for a surge in the number of geosynchronous communications satellites.
According to historical data, orders for large geosynchronous satellites worldwide fell sharply in the late 10's, especially in Western countries, especially in 2019 and the early 1920s. Geosynchronous satellite launch projects have suddenly become more rare.
This downturn in global business is evident to SpaceX because the Falcon 9 rocket's most common mission from 2014 to 2018 was a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) launch.
During those five years, SpaceX completed 28 GTO launches for its commercial customers, peaking in 2018 (nine commercial GTO launches in one year).
Subsequently, orders for such satellites sold out, and the GTO launch project fell off a cliff. CTOnews.com checked that SpaceX completed only 11 GTO launches in the four years from November 2018 to October 2022, and that figure didn't even pick up until the end of 2022 (five in two months and seven in the year).
For now, however, it seems that the SpaceX high-earth orbit launch mission will continue to recover in 2023.
According to the plans announced by SpaceX, they will launch at least 11 commercial GTO or GEO orbiting satellites in 2023. It also includes Space Norway's Arctic Broadband Satellite Mission Satellite. It is reported that the satellite will fly to a strange high-earth orbit (GEO) instead of GTO.
In fact, SpaceX plans to launch more than a dozen GEO / HEO satellites this year. Last month, for example, the company launched the U. S. military's USSF-67 directly into geosynchronous orbit with a heavy Falcon rocket, followed by another heavy Falcon rocket to launch USSF-52 into geosynchronous orbit in the middle of this year.
Even if some missions are postponed to 2024, 2023 will be the largest year in SpaceX history to launch geosynchronous satellites. According to unofficial sources, SpaceX plans to launch 10 more GTO in 2024, 2025 and beyond.
