CTOnews.com February 6 news, financial data show that wafer foundry revenue in January 2023 fell below the NT $20 billion (currently about 4.52 billion yuan) mark, a 15-month low.

Specifically, due to weak demand for smartphones, personal computers and consumer electronics, and continued inventory adjustment, Liandian wafer shipments decreased, with January revenue falling to NT $19.59 billion (currently about 4.427 billion yuan), down 6.47% from the previous month and 4.31% from a year earlier.

CTOnews.com learned that, for comparison, UMC had revenue of 278.705 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 62.151 billion yuan) in 2022, an increase of 30.8% year-on-year.

According to the Taiwan Central News Agency, Lianhe expects that in the first quarter, capacity utilization may fall to 70%, wafer shipments will decrease by 17% to 19% month-on-month, and the average selling price of products will be flat. The legal person expects that the revenue collected by UMC in February and March will fall further.

In addition, UMC expects that customers' inventory days are higher than normal, order visibility is low, the first quarter will be full of multiple challenges, the economy is expected to bottom out in the first half of the year, inventory situation is expected to improve in the second half of the year, and demand is expected to pick up gradually.
