A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, Cook: donation will be made to help restore work in the disaster area
CTOnews.com, Feb. 7-Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a new tweet that he would donate money to fund relief and recovery efforts after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6.
"to express our thoughts and condolences to Turkey, the Syrian people and anyone affected by the devastating earthquake," Cook said in a tweet. Apple will donate money to help with disaster relief and recovery efforts.
Two severe earthquakes occurred in southeastern Turkey in the early morning local time on Monday (February 6). Seismologists said the interval between the two earthquakes was only about 10 minutes. More than 3400 people have been killed and thousands injured in both countries, according to the Associated Press.
CTOnews.com has learned that the latest data show that the quake killed more than 1500 people and injured more than 6000 in Turkey and at least 1444 in Syria. It is not clear the full extent of the local damage caused by the natural disaster, Turkish Interior Minister S ü leyman Soylu told the media that the provinces in the southeast of the country were the most affected.
