The second-generation HomePod is similar to the original model in terms of size, functionality and sound quality, but has a larger touch display at the top.
On the hardware side, the new HomePod features a high-amplitude long-stroke woofer, a powerful 20mm motor-driven diaphragm, a built-in bass equalizer microphone that supports real-time dynamic adjustment, an array of five beamformed horn tweeters at the bottom, and computational audio powered by a high-computing S7 chip.
In addition, the new HomePod has been greatly upgraded in terms of intelligence, with built-in temperature and humidity sensors that can detect and report indoor temperature and humidity, and HomeKit accessories that can automatically turn on/off smart home devices under certain temperature/humidity conditions.
However, compared to the original HomePod, the new HomePod has shrunk in some hardware. Compared with the original HomePod, the new HomePod's tweeter has been reduced from 7 to 5, the woofer size has been reduced from 4.5 inches to 4 inches, the ring array microphone has also been reduced from 6 to 5, and the wireless module has changed from the original 802.11ac Wi-Fi 5 to 802.11n Wi-Fi 4, which is the same as the HomePod mini, and no longer supports MIMO.
