CTOnews.com, February 9 (Xinhua)-- in order to improve the maintainability of Apple's AirPods Pro, Ken Pillonel, a hardware prototype design consultant, switched the Lightning charging port to the USB-C port through a 3D print charging box shell.

IFixit, a foreign maintenance team, gave Apple AirPods Pro repairable a score of 0 (out of 10, the higher the score, the easier it is to repair). Pillonel stressed in the shared video that although Apple's AirPods Pro charging box is easier to open than the AirPods, there is still no guarantee that the charging box will be opened without damaging the components.

After developing similar solutions for first-and second-generation AirPods, Pillonel tried to create a solution to give new life to AirPods Pro charging boxes that could not be opened.

Pillonel has created a downloadable 3D print replacement shell (available on GitHub) to allow technicians to purposefully open the existing shell to enter the internal structure and perform repairs.

Pillonel recommends that as a standard port, USB-C on AirPods Pro increases the possibility of long-term repairable. CTOnews.com inquired about Pillonel's previous similar mobile port modifications, including the addition of USB-C ports for iPhone and Lightning ports for Samsung Galaxy A51.
