CTOnews.com, February 13 (Xinhua)-- according to the Wall Street Journal, Nikola, an American electric truck manufacturer, has begun construction of a hydrogen plant. Nikola is competing in the burgeoning zero-emission truck market as part of a fuel supply network it plans to build.

Nikola has also signed up with a number of hydrogen producers. The manufacturer agreed to supply hydrogen to Nikola cars in the United States and parts of Canada. CTOnews.com learned that Nikola seeks to provide enough hydrogen fuel for about 7500 heavy trucks by 2026.

The planned supply network is crucial to Nikola's strategy of assembling hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks for the market later this year, the report said. Unlike battery-powered electric cars that can be charged with electricity in many existing places, Nikola trucks need hydrogen to run properly.

It is worth mentioning that the name of Nikola is similar to that of Tesla in memory of a physicist, Nikolai Tesla (Nikola Tesla).
