Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen South China Wu Yanzu for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com February 16 news, Volla Phone X23 is a rugged protective mobile phone, with a 6.1-inch HD + display, equipped with MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 4GB memory +64GB storage space, the phone passed MIL-STD-810H and IP68 waterproof and dustproof level test.

Volla Phone X23 supports replaceable batteries, has a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot. Like all Volla phones released since 2019, the Volla Phone X23 comes with a choice of Linux-based Ubuntu Touch or Android-based Volla operating systems.

Ubuntu Touch is a touchscreen-friendly Linux distribution originally developed by Canonical, which makes the popular Ubuntu operating system. However, Canonical eventually abandoned the Ubuntu Touch project and was subsequently taken over by independent developers to form the UBPorts project.

Volla OS, meanwhile, is an offshoot of Google's Android open-source project code that uses a number of customization features, including Springboard Launcher, support for light, dark, and transparent themes, and secure, private alternatives to some of Google's standard apps for sending messages, browsing the web, or GPS navigation. CTOnews.com understands that Volla OS does not support Google Mobile Services, Google Play Store or other Google apps such as Gmail, Chrome or Google Maps.

Some features of mobile phones may vary depending on the operating system. For example, Ubuntu Touch supports "Fusion," which allows users to connect their phones to an external display to run desktop Linux apps, but Volla OS doesn't have any form of desktop mode. Meanwhile, Volla says that data encryption exists only in Volla OS. If users want multiple boot settings and switch operating systems on the same phone, Volla recommends buying a model with Volla OS and manually installing Ubuntu Touch (or another operating system).

In terms of configuration, Volla Phone X23 is equipped with a 6.1-inch 1560 x 720 pixel IPS LCD droplet display with brightness of 500 nits, covering Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and a 16 megapixel self-timer lens in front. Rear 48 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel ultra-wide angle camera. Support side fingerprint recognition/power button, there are dedicated buttons, you can use offline voice to text function to dictate notes.

Volla Phone X23 supports microSD expansion up to 1TB of storage, 1 3.5 mm headphone jack, 1 USB Type-C port, 5000mAh removable battery, supports 30W wired charging or 15W wireless charging, and supports 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC.

Two versions of the Volla Phone X23 will start shipping in May 2023, and pre-orders are now available for € 522 (currently around RMB 3826). Currently available only in Europe, users in other markets can purchase later by participating in Indiegogo crowdfunding.
