Ubuntu 22.04 LTS can now be upgraded to Linux Kernel 5.19
CTOnews.com Canonical today announced the upgrade of Linux Kernel 5.15, on which Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) is based, to Linux Kernel 5.19. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will be supported until October 2026.
CTOnews.com users who are using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS can enter the command "sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade" in the terminal application to upgrade to the Linux 5.19 HWE kernel. The updated installer media will also include all update packages released since Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, so you don't have to download hundreds of updates after installation.
Linux Kernel 5.19 introduces many new features, such as support for ZSTD compressed firmware files, support for AMD's secure nested paging feature, support for Godson's "LoongArch"RISC ISA CPU architecture, and Intel's new "in-field scan" mechanism to detect problems in Intel CPUs.
Canonical will release Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS on February 23, 2023, which will be based on Linux Kernel 5.19 by default.
