CTOnews.com February 21, Alexandre Oliva officially launched GNU Linux-libre 6.2 Kernel today. Compared to Linux 6.2, which was just released today, the kernel does not contain any proprietary code and is mainly suitable for users who are looking for 100% open source and freedom.

GNU Linux-libre 6.2 Kernel is internally codenamed "la quincea ñ era", and CTOnews.com learned from the official update log that the release is also to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Jeff Moe's Linux-libre project.

GNU Linux-libre 6.2Kernel cleaned the open source Nouveau driver designed for Nvidia GPU, adjusted and cleaned the Radeon GPU and mt7921 Wi-Fi drivers, cleaned up the new blob in the vgxy61 driver, disabled blob requests in mt7622, and the mt7996 Wi-Fi and bcm4377 Bluetooth drivers.

This release also disables blob names in several new AArch64 (ARM64) DTS files, removes s5k4ecgx drivers, removes comments and related code for PCMCIA configuration file requests and SOF free firmware requests, and updates blob names in other drivers.

The GNU Linux-libre kernel can be installed on almost any GNU / Linux distribution, but developers also provide ready-to-install packages for Debian (DEB)-based and Red Hat (RPM)-based distributions.
