Sources say Weilai plans to build its first battery factory in Hefei to reduce its dependence on the Ningde era.
CTOnews.com, Feb. 24 (Reuters)-Lailai is planning to build its first battery factory in Hefei to reduce its dependence on the Ningde era, Reuters quoted people familiar with the matter as saying.
The plant is said to have a planned capacity of 40GWh, and its batteries are similar to Tesla's 4680 and 4695 large cylindrical batteries. After it is put into production, it is expected to power about 400000 long-range electric vehicles.
In addition, the Chinese company plans to build a plant in nearby Chuzhou to produce cheap electric cars and sell them to Europe.
Last year, Weilai made it clear that it wanted to build its own batteries. Li Bin also revealed that he will start making 800V high-voltage platform battery packs with faster charging speed in the second half of 2024. CTOnews.com has reported that Lailai added a new construction project in May last year, with a plan to invest about 218 million yuan to lease an industrial plant in Anting Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, for the construction of battery research and development laboratories and pilot lines.
