They include the new capabilities needed to support connected devices that have difficult or inefficient access to the physical SIM, such as healthcare devices, connected vehicles, or a range of other Internet of things devices.

In addition, another Internet of things dedicated SIM technology iSIM (CTOnews.com Note: integrated SIM) is emerging, which combines eSIM functions into a single dedicated SoC. Although the eSIM is a dedicated chip soldered to the board and connected to the device processor, iSIM integrates the processor core and encryption into the SoC.

According to TechInsights's latest forecast of eSIM market stock, the global eSIM market stock of Internet of things applications will grow from 599 million in 2022 to 4.712 billion in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 29%.

The growth of the eSIM market is driven by the application of the Internet of things in enterprises in vertical areas such as automotive, industry / manufacturing, transportation / logistics, etc. TechInsights expects commercial iSIM to be launched in 2023. By 2023, eSIM (including iSIM) is expected to account for more than 50% of total module sales of the Internet of things.
