The project also set a new record for the world's largest capacity of the technology.

A total of 34 sets of "Ronghe No. 1" battery stack independently developed by Academia Sinica and four groups of storage tanks are installed in the project, which uses the chemical characteristics of iron and chromium ions in the electrolyte to store electric energy, which can store 6000 kilowatt hours of electricity. During the trial operation of the project, the key equipment runs smoothly and the index parameters are normal, which will be incorporated into the commercial operation of the power grid.

According to the State Power Investment, the iron-chromium flow battery energy storage system has the advantages of flexible customization of energy storage power and capacity, long life, safety and environmental protection, strong environmental adaptability, low cost and rich resources, and is known as "flat pumped storage".

According to reports, after the iron-chromium flow battery is put into commercial use on a large scale, the electric energy can be stored safely, green and in large quantities, and the electric energy needed by the city can be stored in the electrolyte for a long time, just like the "portable battery" of a city. When the power consumption is low, renewable energy such as wind and solar energy can be used to charge the battery, and then discharge at the peak of power consumption. In addition, it can also cooperate with conventional thermal power, nuclear power and other energy sources, provide peak regulation, frequency modulation and other auxiliary services for power system operation, and improve the flexibility of power system.
