DigiTimes reported that BOE may not be able to provide LTPS OLED screens for iPhone 15 series phones on schedule.
CTOnews.com March 4, South Korean media The Elec reported in late February this year that there was a light leakage problem in the OLED screen prepared by BOE for the Apple iPhone 15 series. Another media company, DigiTimes, pointed out in its latest report that BOE may not be able to provide screens for the iPhone 15 series on schedule.
Part of the CTOnews.com translation report reads as follows: "BOE plans to supply LTPS OLED panels for two mid-range iPhone 15 models, but due to process problems, the yield is low and unstable, making mass production almost impossible in June 2023."
The report also said that LG Display and Samsung Display are "very likely" to become the only two suppliers of iPhone 15 OLED panels. It's just that Samsung Display is the bulk of this screen supply, and LG Display is unable to meet higher demand due to limited production capacity.
According to the report, the OLED panel produced by BOE for the iPhone 15 series has experienced light leakage, and the problem is said to be limited to the low-end 6.1in iPhone 15 model that BOE is involved in manufacturing.
Apple requires its iPhone 15 OLED suppliers to use something called edge light barrier (ELB), a device to prevent light leakage around the camera lens, as well as other advanced technology. However, BOE could not successfully apply this solution, and it was reported that BOE "does not seem to meet the strict standards required by Apple".
