CTOnews.com, March 7 (Xinhua)-- the Fairphone 2 may be one of the phones with the longest official support, which was launched in 2015 and is pre-installed with Android 5.1.

After more than seven years of 43 software updates, Fairphone 2 today ushered in the last patch update in its life cycle.

Today's software update for Android 10 will be the last update for the phone, the company said. Although the original goal was to support a "three to five-year" update for the phone, it has lasted for more than seven years.

Fairphone has previously said that it is not easy to provide updates over such a long period of time, and that the bigger challenge comes from Qualcomm. As of December last year, Qualcomm provided three major operating system updates and four years of security updates for its chips. Once that support is over, however, manufacturers like Fairphone are on their own if they want to keep updating their phones.
