Amazon and Rivian are reportedly considering ending an agreement between the two sides to no longer require the electric car maker to sell its delivery trucks exclusively to Amazon.

Amazon has told Rivian in recent months that it plans to purchase about 10,000 trucks this year, just the lower end of its previous purchase plan. Rivian then launched negotiations aimed at ending the exclusivity agreement.

This exclusive agreement was first signed in 2019.

Amazon is Rivian's largest shareholder, owning 17 percent of the company. Amazon said the investment, along with plans to purchase 100,000 Rivian trucks by 2030, would be an important part of its emissions reduction plan.

Both sides have struggled in recent months to cut costs, including layoffs.
