Canonical announces that Ubuntu 23.04 release will be based on Linux 6.2 stable development
CTOnews.com March 15 news, Ubuntu 23.04 development code name "Lunar Lobster", in the recently released development version, the kernel used has been upgraded from 5.19 to 6.1. This makes one wonder: will Ubuntu 23.04 use the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel?
The Canonical team confirmed today that the Ubuntu 23.04 development board will be based on Linux 6.2. Ubuntu 23.04 is scheduled to be released on April 20, with the kernel frozen on April 6.
Linux 6.2is currently the latest and most stable kernel version, and Linux 6.3stable version is expected to be released in late April or early May. Linux 6.1 is a long-term supported version of LTS.
Dimitri John Ledkov, a longtime Ubuntu developer at Canonical, posted comments on the mailing list today. CTOnews.com translated as follows:
In the Lunar distribution, the kernel 6.1 will not be available for any Ubuntu flavor version for the time being, and all flavor versions will be based on Linux 6.2.
