March 14, according to media reports, people familiar with the matter said that Nissan's production of Ariya all-electric vehicles will be at least 30 per cent lower than planned due to problems with chips, parts and paint.

Foreign media reported that Nissan was unable to quickly produce its Ariya electric vehicles as planned due to the impact on Nissan's production line in Tokyo, Japan, which will also lead to slower-than-expected delivery of Ariya.

At present, Nissan is trying to catch up with Tesla of the United States and Volkswagen of Europe. The company has pledged to spend Y2tn to electrify more models and make battery-powered cars a key driver of its future growth.

Ashwani Gupta, the company's chief operating officer, said that by fiscal year 2030, the company would launch 27 electric models, including 19 pure electric models, up from 23 and 15 previously planned.

Nissan recently announced that it will recall some 2023 Ariya electric vehicles in the United States because their steering wheels may fall off while driving. The recall involved 1063 cars, but the company said only 0.18% (about 2 cars) could actually have a loose steering wheel.
