CTOnews.com March 20 news, many mobile phones can adjust the volume of notifications and ringtones separately, which makes sense, because some users may feel that incoming calls are more important than application notifications, so set them higher volume. Google previously offered this feature on Pixel phones, but later canceled it, bundling ringtones and notification volumes together. Pixel users have been asking Google to separate the two volumes, but the company has never taken their feedback seriously. That could change later this year, with Android 14 offering separate ringtones and notification volume sliders.

Many Pixel users running Android 14 DP 2 found separate notification and ring sliders on their phones, which was not the case when updating to the developer version of the system.

CTOnews.com notes that Mishaal Rahman pointed out on Twitter that Google has been working on independent notification and ring volume since Android 13 QPR2 Beta, and that a logo must be enabled to activate this change. In Android 14 DP2, it seems that Google has enabled this feature by default.

Although the ringtone and notification volume are no longer tied together, they are silenced if the phone is set to vibrate mode.

It's unclear if this is a Bug or something Google did intentionally, but since it's not an API-level tweak, a separate volume slider will likely appear in the next Android 13 QPR3 Beta and be officially released with the Pixel Feature Drop in June 2023.
