Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 15 (Xinhua)-- the State University of New York Research Foundation, the University of Connecticut and Worcester Polytechnic University have jointly filed a patent lawsuit in Texas Federal Court, alleging that Samsung's Galaxy Watch smartwatch infringes nine technology patents.
The lawsuit concerns smartwatches such as Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch Active 2, which find infringing techniques such as heart rate, respiratory rate, depth and rhythm, body temperature, level of activity, skin color and blood pressure, measurement of blood oxygen saturation and detection of heart failure, measurement of outdoor temperature, humidity and air quality.
CTOnews.com learned from the report that University of Connecticut professor Ki Chon met with Matthew Wiggins, senior algorithm manager at the Samsung Center for Strategy and Innovation in Boston in June 2015, and worked with Samsung to develop smartwatches between 2016 and 2018.
However, the cooperation between the two sides stopped in 2018, and Samsung followed up with clinical trials and independently launched heart-related wearable devices.
Samsung was certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in September 2020 and released a health monitoring application that can be used on Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2.
The plaintiffs believe that Samsung's subsequent Galaxy Watch features are based on Dr. Chun's papers and publications.
