Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, April 25 (Xinhua)-- Netflix said on Tuesday that it plans to invest US $2.5 billion in South Korea over the next four years to produce Korean TV dramas, movies, Reality Show and so on, doubling its investment in South Korea since 2016.

The Korean entertainment industry, known as the "Korean Wave", has boomed around the world in recent years, with content exports, including music, video games and movies, reaching an all-time high of $12.4 billion (currently about 85.56 billion yuan) in 2021, second only to household appliances and rechargeable batteries.

Netflix has also made outstanding investments in South Korea, producing a number of hit dramas, including the Squid Game in 2021, the extraordinary lawyer Yu Young-woo in 2022 and Dark Glory II in 2023.

South Korean movies, TV dramas and Reality Show have become increasingly popular among global audiences in the past year, Netflix said in February. This year, Netflix will further expand its existing Korean film lineup by promoting six South Korean films and a number of Reality Show programs.
