According to news in the morning of April 28, Beijing time, Microsoft executives are trying to reassure employees in the Xbox gaming business, and there is still a long way to go before the plan to buy Activision Blizzard for $69 billion is approved. They also stressed that Microsoft's success in the gaming industry does not depend entirely on the deal.

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard would have been the biggest deal in the history of the gaming industry. On Wednesday, UK antitrust regulators rejected the acquisition, which could deal a fatal blow to the deal.

At a departmental staff meeting on Thursday morning, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's games business, admitted that Microsoft was disappointed and that the UK regulator's decision would lead to an extension of the entire approval process, according to people familiar with the matter. However, Microsoft's willingness to pursue the deal has not wavered, the source said.

Mr Spencer said Microsoft president Brad Brad Smith had been up since 2am Western time on Wednesday to draft a response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Amy Hood, the chief financial officer in charge of the acquisition, also held a senior management meeting on the same day, he said.

Spencer also said that the purpose of the acquisition is to accelerate Microsoft's plans in the game industry, but it does not represent the whole strategy of Microsoft's game business. Even if it fails to acquire Activision Blizzard, Microsoft's game business strategy will move forward.

In a statement on Wednesday, CMA said concerns about the deal could not be addressed by selling the popular game call of Duty or other solutions, such as Microsoft's commitment to provide Activision games to rival platforms. Microsoft said it would appeal the decision.

Microsoft has yet to respond to internal meetings.
