CTOnews.com May 2, Red Hat Red Hat recently organized a HDR hackfest event in the Czech Republic, bringing together all Linux desktop stakeholders in desktops, display drivers, and related infrastructure to help make progress in high dynamic range HDR display support.

Organizations participating in the HDR hackfest include Red Hat, KDE, System76, AMD, Igalia, Collabora, Canonical, etc. Nvidia, Intel and Google are also involved remotely.

Wayland manager Simon Ser wrote a review of HDR hackfest and technical discussions around HDR and color management, including mixed SDR and HDR content for Linux desktops, power optimization, variable refresh rate (VRR), KMS attributes, and so on.

In addition, the developers of V Society are currently adapting to Linux's HDR display, mainly in games. According to news in January this year, games such as Halo: infinite, Deep Rock Galaxy and death stranded: director's edited version have been supported to turn on HDR under Linux, but they are still in the adaptation stage.
