Now the company has submitted a new patent related to a 70% discount smartphone to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, demonstrating the possible design and complexity of such devices.

According to Patently Apple, the patent shows a device that uses two hinges to fold the phone and its large OLED screen into three equal-sized parts; essentially from a tablet to a compact smartphone that allows users to view photos / videos in tablet mode, use a large screen when browsing the web, and convert it into a "smaller screen" when traveling.

CTOnews.com learned from the patent description that Samsung uses sensors and chips in the hinges of the device to identify the state of the phone. For example, if both hinges are fully open, the sensor passes the information to the processor, which then displays the UI element in all parts of the screen; if the phone folds in such a way that only one of the three parts of the screen is visible, the operating system will display the interface UI only in that part.
