Mozilla Privacy Research: 32 mainstream mental health applications, only 2 are qualified
CTOnews.com, May 5 (Xinhua)-- Firefox Firefox developer Mozilla has a team that investigates the privacy of apps. They read the privacy policy, see if proper protection is provided, and then check the company's records on data breaches and so on.
The team recently screened 32 mental health apps that are popular in the US and Europe, of which 19 were marked as "privacy not included", which shocked the team.
CTOnews.com note: the Mozilla team marked an app as "not including privacy", which means that the app is terrible at protecting users' privacy and security.
If an app has two or more privacy issues, it will be marked as "not including privacy".
Mozilla reports that most mental health apps collect and control users' privacy data, and only 2 of the 32 apps surveyed have no privacy issues at all:
PTSD Coach, from the Department of Veterans Affairs
Wysa AI chatbot, from Touchkin
The following 11 apps have one privacy issue:
Finch
Woebot
Moodfit
Bearable
Youper
Ginger
Recovery
Record
Calm
Superbetter
Modern
Health
NOCD
The following 19 apps are considered "bad" with two or more privacy issues:
Mindshift CBT
Breathe
Think, Do
With Sesame
7 Cups

Better Stop
Suicide
RAINN
Shine

Liberate

Worst of all is Replika, which has privacy issues in all aspects of data usage, data control, tracking, security and privacy policy review.
