CTOnews.com, May 15 (Xinhua) unlike PlayStation and Xbox's competitors, Nintendo derives most of its software revenue from first-party games.

According to data released by Nintendo and analyzed by TweakTown, since the launch of the Nintendo Switch platform in March 2017, game sales on the platform have reached $34.5 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 240.12 billion yuan), of which the first-party games (games developed or licensed by Nintendo itself) accounted for $27.9 billion (currently about 194.184 billion yuan), accounting for 81% of total sales. By contrast, third-party games (games developed by other vendors) account for only $6.6 billion, or 19% of total sales.

This figure is not surprising, as Nintendo has always focused on first-party games and attracted a large number of loyal fans. For example, "Mario", "Legend of Zelda", "Pokemon" and other series are Nintendo's signature games. According to the latest news, the Nintendo Switch platform has exceeded 1 billion game sales, which means the platform accounts for more than 18% of all game sales in Nintendo history (about 5.592 billion).

It is worth noting that this figure does not include game sales on other Nintendo platforms such as 3DS, nor does it distinguish between digital and physical versions. In addition, Nintendo Switch currently has 1868 games to choose from, which means that each game can sell an average of more than 500,000 copies.
