CTOnews.com, May 17 (Xinhua) Microsoft launched the Airband program worldwide in 2017 with the aim of providing people-friendly Internet broadband services in rural areas. Microsoft announced further cooperation with global broadband providers to expand its business to nine countries and regions in Latin America and Africa, benefiting another 40 million people.

Vickie Robinson, director of the Airband Initiative program, says expanding Internet connectivity in Latin America and Africa can help improve employment and educational opportunities while solving social problems. The expansion of CTOnews.com subsidiary key countries is as follows:

In Brazil, Airband and Brisanet work together to provide affordable access to more than 11 million people in low-income areas of the country.

In Chile, Airband partnered with the non-profit organization Fundaci ó n Pa í s Digital to extend broadband coverage to Bib í o and Antofagasta regions, with a goal of accessing another 1 million people by 2025.

In Colombia, Airband and Anditel have partnered to provide network coverage to more than 600000 people. The two companies plan to cover another 3 million people, with the goal of giving 85 per cent of Colombians access to high-speed Internet by 2026.
