CTOnews.com May 17, according to The Verge, Android Sonos users will face a feature that is about to disappear. Sonos Android app client will soon no longer support local media files.

Sonos will remove support for local media from its Android app later this month. CTOnews.com attaches the following announcement on Sonos 'website:

"Starting May 23, 2023, we will eliminate the ability to play audio files directly to Sonos using the On This Device menu in the Sonos Android app. "

Sonos also recommends that users upload their music to YouTube Music, Apple Music, Deezer or Plex, or use NAS (Network Attached Storage) drives. Sonos removed the same feature from its iOS client about three years ago, and in support forum posts, Sonos vaguely hinted that the change was related to newer versions of Android.

With the release of newer versions of mobile operating systems, the way information is shared between devices sometimes changes, and this feature will no longer be compatible with newer versions of Android operating systems, although Sonos has yet to provide specific details.

Sonos previously released the Era 100 and Era 300 with built-in Bluetooth-enabled speakers, but the quality of Bluetooth transfer of local files is not expected to match the local playback quality provided by Sonos apps.
