Apple, Lenovo and Dell are firmly in the top three of global computer panel purchases, with a combined share of 40%

CTOnews.com, May 21, according to the Industrial and Commercial Times, analysts reported that Apple purchased 99 million portable computer panels, including tablets, and had a market share of more than 20 percent in 2022, making it the largest buyer.

Apple purchased a total of 99 million laptop panels in 2022, down 4 per cent from a year earlier, the report said. Apple has been firmly at the top of the list since it leapt to the top of computer panel purchases in 2017. In 2022, Apple's share of panel purchases rose from 17% the previous year to 21% in 2022, exceeding 20% for the first time. The purchase category includes 2700 million laptop panels and 7200 million tablet panels, and the order is split by Sharp, LGD and BOE.

Lenovo, the world's second-largest purchaser of portable computer panels, purchased about 55 million pieces in 2022, accounting for 11 per cent of purchases, down 29 per cent from a year earlier. Lenovo purchased 4500 million laptop panels and 1000 million tablet panels in 2022. Dell, the third-largest purchaser of portable computer panels, bought about 35 million pieces in 2022, accounting for 7 per cent of purchases, down 30 per cent from a year earlier.

Analysts point out that Apple, Lenovo and Dell have collectively digested about 40% of portable computer panels, and their orders cut due to the consumer downturn have led to a significant decline in panel factory shipments. According to CTOnews.com inquiries, a total of about 479 million portable panels were shipped in 2022, which is the first time that less than 500 million portable panels have been shipped annually since 2020. The report also pointed out that the further reduction in Apple's purchases in the first half of this year had a direct impact on the portable computer panel market.
