OpenAI competitor artificial intelligence startup Anthropic announced that it received $450 million in round C financing, and Google participated again.
On May 24, according to foreign media reports, Anthropic, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup, announced on Tuesday that it had received $450 million (currently about 3.177 billion yuan) in round C financing.
This round of financing is led by Spark Capital, with Google, Salesforce Ventures, Sound Ventures, Zoom Ventures and so on participating. Before this round of financing, Google had already invested $300 million to $400 million (currently about 2.824 billion yuan) in Anthropic.
The latest round of financing brings Anthropic's total financing to nearly $1 billion (currently about 7.06 billion yuan), making it one of the most well-funded artificial intelligence start-ups, the report said. The company did not disclose its valuation, but sources said it was valued at nearly $5 billion (currently about 35.3 billion yuan).
Anthropic said the new funding would support its continued development of useful, harmless and honest artificial intelligence systems, including Claude, an artificial intelligence assistant that can perform a variety of dialogue and text processing tasks.
Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI executives, is competing with OpenAI, the developer behind the chat robot ChatGPT, whose Claude model is seen as OpenAI GPT-4 's main competitor.
