Twitter withdraws from the Code of Conduct against false Information, EU Commissioner: it's your responsibility, you can't evade it.
CTOnews.com, May 28 (Xinhua) Musk recently announced his withdrawal from the European Code of Conduct against false Information after formulating a series of controversial policies after taking the helm of Twitter. Twitter and Google, Microsoft, Facebook and many other technology companies volunteered to sign the Code in 2018.
The European Union put forward a clearer "strengthening the fight against false information" guidelines in May 2021, and in June 2022, in cooperation with 34 major online platforms, emerging and professional platforms, advertising industry participants, fact-checking institutions, research institutions and civil society organizations in Europe, the enhanced version of the Code was jointly signed to further curb and combat online misinformation.
Thierry Thierry Breton, EU internal market commissioner, tweeted that CTOnews.com translated as follows:
Twitter announced its withdrawal from the voluntary Code of Conduct against false Information.
But that doesn't mean Twitter has no obligation to crack down on false information. Twitter can avoid it, but it is a responsibility it cannot escape.
It has become a consensus in the industry to crack down on false information, and after the Digital Services Act (DSA) came into effect on August 25, manufacturers will voluntarily promise to change to their legal obligations.
Our team is ready to deploy anti-false information at any time.
