Apple cancels remake of 1927 film history classic science fiction Metropolis: writers strike, upfront costs are too high
CTOnews.com, June 20 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- it was announced last year that Apple plans to remake the 1927 film history classic "Metropolis" into an Apple TV+ series directed by Mr. Robot "and" Gas Lamp Gaslit "writer / director Sam Esmail.
According to the latest news from Deadline, the "Metropolis" series will be cancelled due to a continuing writers' strike and rising pre-production costs.
UCP, a television production company, confirmed to foreign media that the project would not move forward because of the "push costs" and "uncertainties" associated with the strike. Production of Metropolis was scheduled to begin this summer, but UCP decided to cancel the series after weighing the risks associated with the writers' strike and how it might affect the production schedule.
The 1927 film Metropolis is a classic sci-fi film, and CTOnews.com found that it got a high rating of 9.1 on Douban. It may not be a bad thing for Apple to cancel the remake. After all, the score of the previous "Base" series on Apple TV was only 6.4.
