According to Manuel Bronstein, Roblox's chief product officer, the platform will allow creators to create content specifically for people aged 17 and older, including alcohol and violence.

To prevent underage users from accessing 17+'s content, Roblox will require people to scan their driver's license and submit a selfie before moving into the new category.

Roblox's statistics last year showed that 38% of daily active users were over 17 years old, with the fastest growing age group being 17-24 years old. Most of Roblox's creators are now over 18, and the company believes they're ready to build a more mature world on the platform.

Bronstein said: "This is a great money-making opportunity for the developer community, because people over the age of 17 may have more control over their income. "

Roblox's 17+ content isn't completely open, however, allowing nudity and content that "seeks real-world romantic relationships," as well as "extreme violence or severe physical/psychological abuse."

CTOnews.com notes that Roblox, which went public in 2021 and announced its foray into advertising last year, is facing significant revenue growth pressure.
