CTOnews.com, June 26 (Xinhua)-- A company called Throwflame recently launched a robotic dog equipped with a flamethrower that can spew flames up to 9 meters long. This robot dog is called "Thermonator". If it falls into the hands of lawbreakers, the consequences will be unimaginable.

"Thermonator is the first robotic dog ever equipped with a flamethrower," the company's product introduction wrote. "it can set off flames anywhere at any time!"

Throwflame does not explicitly promote the robot dog as a weapon, and as can be seen from the "Clout" page on the company's website, many of its fire-breathing tools have been used for special effects in movies and TV shows. However, just because something is not promoted as a destructive weapon does not mean it cannot be used as a weapon.

The flamethrower appears to be mounted on a Unitree Go1 robotic dog, a quadruped robot with a certain degree of autonomy. Throwflame did not choose the larger and possibly more capable Spot robot dog made by Boston Dynamics, in part because Boston Dynamics banned its robot dogs from being armed. In addition, Spot robot dogs sell for as much as $70,000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 504000 yuan), while Go1 robot dogs cost only $2700 to $3500, plus an ARC flamethrower costs $699 to $899. Although it is not clear what the final price of the Thermonator will be, the company has opened a list of appointments and said it would start shipping in the third quarter of this year.
