CTOnews.com, June 27 (Xinhua)-- HSBC is preparing to relocate its global headquarters from the 45-story Canary Wharf Building to the City of London as part of a plan to reduce office space after the outbreak, and the bank says it is committed to more flexible ways of working, including telecommuting, according to BBC.

▲ Tuyuan Pexels HSBC moved its headquarters from the City of London to Canary Wharf in 2002 and signed a 20-year long-term lease in 2007. The Canary Wharf Building can accommodate 8000 HSBC employees at the same time. HSBC says the new headquarters will be much smaller, will be built in accordance with first-class sustainable development standards, and will actively use recycled materials.

Noel Quinn (Noel Quinn), CEO of HSBC, has said he thinks it is "unnecessary" to go to the office five days a week and that the company's managers often travel around the world within a week.

After reviewing the location of its future headquarters last year, negotiations have begun on the relocation site, according to a spokesman for HSBC. The bank also confirmed that the new headquarters would "support digital innovation" and help HSBC meet its commitment to net zero carbon emissions.

CTOnews.com has previously reported that with the end of the epidemic, more and more large companies are considering reducing office space to adapt to changes in the way of work and management brought about by the rise of telecommuting. HSBC announced earlier that it would reduce office space by about 40% worldwide to reduce costs and energy consumption and allow more employees to work from home.
