CTOnews.com, July 5 (Xinhua)-- domestic sales of Nintendo Nintendo Switch in Japan rose 68% year-on-year to 380000 units in June, a record high, according to Fami, a Japanese game information magazine.

The Nikkei believes that thanks to the popularity of new works in the Legend of Zelda and films based on Malio, coupled with the positive factors of the depreciation of the yen in terms of exchange rate, the demand of tourists visiting Japan has increased significantly, so it can set this record.

"since the end of the May holiday, there has been an increase in the number of overseas tourists coming to the store and more and more people buying Switch," said the head of the game at Shangxin Electric, a Japanese home appliance chain.

Nikkei believes that it is rare for a console like the Switch, which is entering its seventh year, to reach an all-time high in a single month.

Nintendo recently reported a turnover of 1.6016 trillion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 82.162 billion yuan) and expects to sell 15 million Switch consoles in the fiscal year ending March 2024.

As of March 31, 2023, Switch sales reached 100 million units. Nintendo said hardware sales fell 22.1 per cent year-on-year to 17.97 million units, below its sales target of 21 million at the beginning of the year (later revised to 18 million), and officials said production was affected by shortages of semiconductors and other components.
