Musk announced the abolition of the Twitter Circle function: only one year after launch, tweets can only be seen by designated friends.
CTOnews.com, July 8 (Xinhua)-- Musk tweeted today that he would abolish the Twitter Circle (circle) function in favor of improved community communication and DM (private message) group chat, just a year after the launch of the Circle function.
Circle is similar to the Close Friends feature on Instagram, allowing users to share tweets with their closest friends (up to 150people) rather than everyone, and each user can only create up to one circle. In fact, domestic social apps such as Weibo and Wechat have already launched similar functions.
CTOnews.com previously reported that Twitter began a pilot operation of Circle in May last year and officially launched the feature to all users at the end of August. However, with Musk officially joining Twitter at the end of last year, many of the features and services that were enabled before he joined began to be cancelled.
It is worth noting that the DM function that Musk mentioned in today's tweet was also adjusted by him not long ago. In mid-June, Musk announced that Twitter would ban unpaid users from sending private messages to non-friends, which he said would reduce spam. However, his move is seen by the outside world as inducing users to use the paid service Twitter Blue.
