CTOnews.com July 17 (Reuters)-Ford Motor Company announced on Monday that it would lower the price of its popular F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, with all models having different degrees of adjustment. Among them, the lowest Pro model dropped from $59,974 to $49,995, a drop of 16.6%. Platinum, the top-of-the-range model, also dropped 6.2% from $98,000 to $91,995.

Ford's move comes in response to a price war for electric vehicles (EV) launched by market leader Tesla. Tesla has lowered the price of its electric vehicles several times before, causing some traditional automakers to have a backlog of electric vehicles at dealers. Ford, as a company committed to transforming into electric vehicles, is also lowering prices to attract more consumers to choose its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck.

Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer of Ford Model e, commented on the new pricing: "Shortly after the introduction of the F-150 Lightning, steep increases in raw material costs, supply constraints and other factors drove up the cost of electric trucks for Ford and our customers. We've been working behind the scenes to improve accessibility and affordability to help lower prices for our customers and shorten their wait for the new F-150 Lightning. "

CTOnews.com notes that it's also important to note that after the price cut, most Ford F-150 Lightning models (with the exception of the Platinum) may qualify for federal tax credits of up to $7,500.
