CTOnews.com, July 18 (Xinhua)-- Energy tycoon Dale Vince has set up Britain's first electric airline and said it will open domestic flights based on hydrogen power as early as 2025, the Guardian reported.

It is reported that the company, Ecojet, officially said that "they want to be operational as soon as possible" and plans to make its maiden flight between Southampton and Edinburgh next year, using kerosene instead of hydrogen power as claimed by Ecojet.

At present, the company has submitted an application for commercial operation to the Civil Aviation Administration, and plans to apply for the relevant approval of the "hydrogen electric aircraft" license.

"it does feel contradictory, but the core of the project is to upgrade existing aircraft, which is a pragmatic approach, which means we don't need more upfront investment," Dale Vince told the Guardian. "after switching to hydrogen power, Ecojet's commercial flights will expand beyond continental Europe."

CTOnews.com found that Ecojet promised not to use disposable plastics and required employees to wear environmentally friendly uniforms, and that the company planned to provide only plant-based plane meals to customers in future commercial operations, which was "quite environmentally friendly", but it would take time to see whether the company's commercial flight plans would be successful.
