CTOnews.com, July 18 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- the British Interactive Entertainment Association (UKIE) recently released a new guideline on loot boxes in video games on the British government's website. although the guidelines have no legal effect, they may attract the attention of the government if violated.

Out-of-the-box is a paid prop in a video game, which can randomly get items in the game, such as clothing, weapons, characters, etc. This mechanism is considered by some to be similar to gambling. And studies have found a correlation between unpacking and leading to gambling, especially among young people between the ages of 12 and 24.

CTOnews.com noted that in order to protect the interests of minors and consumers, UKIE made 11 recommendations, including:

Persons under the age of 18 are restricted from opening the box except with the consent or knowledge of their parents, guardians or caregivers.

For minors who open the box without their parents' consent, developers should provide a loose refund policy and provide clear customer service contact information.

Before unpacking, a clear probability disclosure should be given, that is, the probability of obtaining each item and each level.

Continue to crack down on unauthorized third-party websites to sell items acquired out of the box, and continue to invest in intellectual property protection to prevent such transactions.

The guidelines come into effect today, and whether it will have a meaningful impact on the future gaming industry remains to be seen.
