CTOnews.com July 19, Meta issued a press release today, announcing a partnership with Microsoft to launch the open source big language model Llama 2 to help developers build generative AI applications.

Qualcomm then issued a press release announcing that it would work with Meta to run applications and services based on the Llama 2 model without networking on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips.

Through cooperation, the two sides can run the generative AI model represented by Llama 2 on smartphones, PC, AR / VR head display devices, cars and other devices, helping developers reduce cloud operating costs and provide users with a private, more reliable and personalized experience.

Qualcomm said that compared with cloud-based LLM, the ability to run large language models such as Llama 2 locally on devices has many advantages, not only lower cost, better performance, no need to connect to online services, but also can provide more personalized, more secure and more private AI services.

Qualcomm plans to start supporting Llama 2-based AI services on Snapdragon chips in 2024.
