Tesla's car has a safety buffer zone and can drive an average of 15 miles after the dashboard runs out of power, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Bjorn Nyland, an electric car tester, tested it on a Model 3 car, and even if the battery reading was zero, the Model 3 could still drive 35 miles.

The LFP battery pack needs certain procedures to calibrate and correctly reflect the range, and Tesla suggests charging it to 100% at least once a week to avoid unstable residual capacity reports.
