CTOnews.com found from officials that when Soluboard is immersed in warm water, the polymer dissolves, the composite layer is delaminated, leaving compostable organic material, the "remaining solution" can be treated as safely as waste water, and 90 per cent of the components attached to the circuit board can be recycled.

Jonathan Swanston, CEO and co-founder of Jiva Materials, Tuyuan Infineon website, said: "the use of water-based recovery process can improve the recovery of precious metals." "in addition, replacing FR-4 PCB materials with Soluboard will reduce carbon emissions by 60 per cent. More specifically, PCB can save 10.5kg of carbon and 620g of plastic per square meter."

Infineon uses Soluboard technology to produce three different demonstration boards and plans to expand its product range in the next few years.
