Huawei took a leap forward by officially opening up the Ark Compiler (OpenArkCompiler) at the end of August 2019. Subsequently, the Ark programming system has successively realized the open source of compiler, engine and debugger, supporting Java and C language, and subsequent plans to support JavaScript.

Huawei stressed that the goal of the Ark project is to build a cross-language programming environment based on MapleIR to achieve cross-language global analysis and optimization.

The Ark engine (MapleEngine) is an important part of the Ark programming system, which aims to build a full stack of software development, including programming languages, multilingual front ends, compilers, execution engines and a series of tool chains.
